Act your age. Or not.

I got to thinking about age and acting your age and age being a 'state of mind' the other day. I'm 34. Just exactly how is 34 supposed to feel? Exactly how is one who is 34 supposed to act? And furthermore, who establishes exactly how 34, or any age for that matter, should act or look or feel?

As I have stated many times and in several places - both on this blog and elsewhere on the internet (gasp!), I do not act my age. When I do it's usually under extreme duress.

I think my behavior most times mimics that of a teenage boy.

I'm silly.

I'm a monumental dork and a goofball - and I have learned to embrace my dorkiness over the years.

I love to laugh. Loudly at times.

I like to play pranks.

I like to talk in funny voices and adopt accents (well, that's the frustrated actress in me).

I do crazy stuff sometimes. Ok, often.

I like my music loud. Especially if it has killer guitar riffs. Or if I just like it.

I absolutely refuse to look or dress like 'someone's mother.' I don't dress age-inappropriate, but I dress kinda young and somewhat artsy and I'm OK with that. Hell, I've worked hard enough on this body that I think it gives me license to dress somewhat younger than I am!

This is not to say that I'm immature or irresponsible. I mean, I *do* have a 4-year-old, and I *have* managed to keep him alive and happy and healthy this long.

I am blessed with friends who don't act their age either. Likely because I'm drawn to those who are fun or just unusual and like to enjoy life rather than a bunch of stuffy bores.

I think age is a state of mind. And no, Mr. Smartypants (Yes, I'm talking to you dear cousin! Fair warning - 30 will be here before you know it and will hit you like a ton of bricks!), it's not 'just something old people say.' I don't feel a day over 24. Some days I don't feel a day over 19. Then of course then I look at what year I was born, do the math, then reality sets in...

I say you're only as old as you feel. And if you feel way younger than you are, embrace it. Flaunt it. Be it.

I TOTALLY agree with you!!!! Keep on being young, cause it's no fun to act (and dress) old!!!
